Norwegian Aqua float out

Norwegian Cruise Line and Fincantieri celebrated the float out of Norwegian Aqua at its dry dock at the shipyard in Marghera (Venice), Italy, the first ship of the new generation Prima Plus class, according to a press release.

The launch of Norwegian Aqua marks the completion of exterior work on the ship, preparing her for her debut in April 2025. To mark this milestone, two ceremonial coins were welded into Norwegian Aqua in maritime tradition, which historically symbolised an offering to the ancient gods and goddesses of the sea in exchange for good luck and safe passage to the ship. The ceremony was followed by a blessing by a local chaplain and a celebratory champagne that flowed through the ship's hull.

"We are thrilled to celebrate another milestone with our partners at Fincantieri, who are an integral part of the First Class journey and support us in the evolution of the extraordinary experience we design and offer our guests," said David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line.

With a gross tonnage of 156,300 tonnes and a length of 1,056 feet, Norwegian Aqua will be 10 per cent larger than the first two First Class ships, which also feature Fincantieri's craftsmanship, offering more space and more innovative offerings, including the world's first hybrid roller coaster and water slide, the Aqua Slidecoaster; a new digital sports complex with interactive LED floor, Glow Court; and NCL's largest 360-degree open-air promenade to date, Ocean Boulevard.
