China's first large Chinese-built cruise ship, the Adora Magic City, left the port of Shanghai last Monday afternoon for its first voyage, opening a new chapter for the country's shipbuilding and cruise industries.
The Adora Magic City cruise ship, built starting in 2021 and inaugurated in 2024, is the first of two Chinese-built ships ordered by CSSC CARNIVAL CRUISE and operated under the new travel brand Adora Cruises.
The Adora Magic City is 323.6 meters long, has a gross weight of 135,500 tonnes and can accommodate up to 5,246 passengers in a total of 2,125 rooms, according to its builder , the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd (SWS). It has 16 floors and a total of 40,000 square meters of public and recreational spaces.
What is confirmed so far is that the liner has a large performing arts center, numerous restaurants and cafes (free and specialty venues), various lounges and bars, art corridors, children's clubs, a spa, an outdoor amusement park with a circular water slide and a children's playground with 11 total water games and a spacious sunbathing area for children.
Magic City's sister city (TBN) is currently scheduled to open in 2025.
